Online Application Now Available for St. John STEM Magnet Program

Applications are now being accepted for the St. John STEM Magnet High School Program for the 2020-21 school year.

Applications will be accepted through 4 p.m. on March 1.

The STEM Magnet High School Program offers an advanced option for high school students who wish to prepare for possible careers in science, technology, engineering or math. This program seeks to inspire creativity, promote leadership, and cultivate well-rounded, lifelong learners who are problem solvers. Together with other academically advanced students, students will be challenged through a rigorous program of instruction that will prepare them for success in college and beyond.

A few of the specific benefits that STEM Magnet students receive are:

  • Opportunities to earn college credits through a partnership with Louisiana State University in engineering and digital media pathways
  • Opportunities to earn college credits through a partnership with Xavier University in pre-pharmacy
  • Working with highly-trained teachers who are qualified to deliver college-level instruction
  • Focus on science, technology, engineering and math skills that are valued in today’s workforce
  • Partnership with Marathon to help bring these skills into the classroom
  • Honor courses
  • Other dual enrollment opportunities

 

Items required to complete the STEM application include:

Current public school students:

  • Spring 2020 Math results
  • Spring 2020 Science results
  • Most recent report card (2019-2020 school year)
  • 2018-2019 end of year / final report card

Current private school students:

  • Most recent copy of standardized test results if student did not participate in LEAP 2025 test
  • Most recent report card (2019-2020 school year)
  • 2018-2019 end of year / final report card

Current public high school students:

  • Most recent LEAP 2025 Math results
  • Most recent LEAP 2025 Science results
  • Most recent report card (2019-2020 school year)
  • 2018-2019 end of year/final report card
  • An unofficial copy of student’s transcript
