District Statement Regarding Fire Arm Incident

Dear SJBP Parents and Guardians:
The district was made aware of a serious report regarding a student in possession of a firearm at one of our schools. Thanks to the quick actions of an observant teacher and student, this matter was immediately reported and shared with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement responded swiftly, securing the firearm and launching a follow-up assessment.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We take every potential threat with the utmost seriousness. My team and I are constantly assessing our school campuses and enhancing security measures to ensure a safe learning environment for all.
I want to publicly commend the teacher and student who acted quickly to report this situation, as well as the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, for their immediate response and support. Their dedication to the safety of our schools is truly commendable and deeply appreciated.
As a district, we thoroughly investigate every threat—no matter the source or perceived credibility—because every report provides us with the opportunity to take necessary action. I want to encourage staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders to speak up if they know or see something concerning. Your vigilance is essential to maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone. By working together and staying alert, we can help prevent potential threats and protect our school community.
