HEALTH INSURANCE REGULATIONS

 

 

RETIREE PARTICIPATION REGULATIONS

           

Health and life insurance for retirees of the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board shall be governed by the following:

 

ELIGIBILITY:

 

    1. The Employee termination from St. John the Baptist Parish School Board was for retirement purposes only,
       

    2. The Employee was a covered Employee, as defined by the terms of the Health/Life Insurance Contract immediately prior to the date of retirement,
       

    3. The Employee is classified as a retiree by the appropriate retirement system,
       

    4. The Employee must meet eligibility requirements for the State reimbursement and,
       

    5. The Employee must have a minimum of five (5) continuous years of service (as defined by the retirement system) with the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board immediately preceding retirement.
       

    6. With regards to School Board Members, the eligibility requirements in 1 and 3 above do not apply.  To be eligible to participate in the group insurance plan as a retiree, the School Board Member must serve a minimum of two (2) terms.  Board members will adhere to the premium payment schedule below.

 

PREMIUM PAYMENTS:

 

    1. If the retirement system offers the service of withholding premiums from the retirement check and remitting directly to the School Board, the retiree must participate in this service.
       

    2. If the retiree has been employed by the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board for less than ten (10) years, the Board will pay zero percent (0%) of the School Board's portion for a single plan.
       

    3. If the retiree has been employed by the Board for ten (10) but less than fifteen (15) years, the Board will pay fifty percent (50%) of the School Board's portion for a single plan.
       

    4. If the retiree has been employed by the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board for fifteen (15) but less than twenty (20) years the Board will pay seventy-five percent (75%) of the School Board's portion for a single plan.
       

    5. If the retiree has been employed by the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board for twenty (20) or more years, the Board will pay one hundred percent (100%) of the School Board's portion for a single plan.
       

    6. If the retiree retires from the retirement system on disability retirement and the disability is because of an injury sustained while performing employment related duties for the St. John the Baptist School Board, the Board will pay one hundred percent (100%) of the School Board's portion for a single plan.
