PHILOSOPHY

The basic concern of the school personnel is to help students prepare for life by learning to cope with emotional stresses brought about by limitations and failures.  In order to do this, the school believes that each individual should be accepted at his/her own level of development and guided in such a way that he teams what is expected of him/her.  We expect each student to mature to his/her utmost capacity emotionally, intellectually, socially and vocationally.

We believe that students with learning difficulties can be helped to learn sufficiently in order to enter the world of work as contributing members of our society. Each will be assisted in becoming a happy, self-supporting citizen with pride in his/her ability to work and in his contribution to the community.

The school system needs to provide the necessary leadership, coordination, management, evaluation, and training necessary to insure a smooth transition of responsibility.

The St. John the Baptist Parish School System believes in the following statements which support its philosophy.  These statements give additional direction in defining our purpose.

  1. Quality instruction should be provided for each student.

  2. An individualized curriculum for each student is a responsibility of the school system through the building administrator and teachers.

  3. All students can learn and reach individual acceptable standards designed for their needs and abilities.

  4. Adequate personnel, facilities, equipment, materials and auxiliary services should be furnished by the school system.

  5. It is necessary to inform the public concerning the direction and needs of the school system.

  6. Adequate inservice professional training, leadership training, and complete evaluation of all components of program should be provided.

  7. Proper liaison and cooperation between all agencies, professional groups, clubs, etc., whose responsibility it is to provide service and/or assist youth and adults is a necessity.

  8. Budgeting-accountability and service to operate in a business like manner is essential.

  9. Proper rapport with Louisiana Department of Education is to be maintained to insure high quality governmental support of the parish school system.

The school shall make every effort to provide an educational program designed to meet the individual needs of children according to their ages, mental abilities and vocational or professional opportunities.

One of the primary objectives for all public schools is to meet fully the standards for approval established by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

The branches of spelling, reading, writing, art, arithmetic, geography, English, United States history, safety, physical education, and health, including the evil effects of alcohol, tobacco, and narcotics shall be taught beginning in the elementary schools.
